They’re here. Again.
20th Century Fox adopts an “if it ain’t broke, why not fix it anyway?” approach to Tobe Hooper’s 1980s classic.
The original Poltergeist (1982) has quite a history. Dominique Dunne (Dana) was strangled by her boyfriend in the year of its release, and Heather O’Rourke (Carol Anne) was just 12 years old when she died in 1988.
It also killed Hooper’s career stone dead. Heavy-handed interference from producer and co-writer Steven Spielberg and rumours of substance abuse saw Hooper eventually capitalising on Poltergeist’s success with naked space vampire megaflop, Lifeforce (1985).
This new trailer has a nice old school vibe to it, and director Gil Keenan appears to have gone for practical effects over CG. But really, what’s the point?
Poltergeist is released on 31st July.
