Netflix have announced that episodes of the new CBS original Star Trek: Discovery series will be available 24 hours after its premiere in the US.
With the rebooted cinematic trilogy leaving long-term fans underwhelmed. Star Trek: Discovery promises a return to the values of Gene Rodenberry‘s original series.
The new series is co-created by Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek Into Darkness) and Bryan Fuller (Voyager, Deep Space Nine), but other details of the new series are still sketchy.
The yet-to-be-announced cast and crew will begin production this September in Toronto.
The iconic and influential global franchise will return to television for the first time since 2005 with a new ship, new characters and new missions, while embracing the same ideology and hope for the future that inspired a generation.
Should you feel the need to do a spot of catching up, all previous iterations of small-screen Star Trek (including The Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise) are currently available on Netflix.
Star Trek: Discovery premieres on CBS and Netflix in January 2017.
